Following successful qualification (recognized by the German Stage Association,)
I continued my career in Hagen, being appointed principal make-up artist in 1987.
Further contracts followed in Germany with the State Theatre, Hanover (Niedersächsische Staatstheater, Hannover) commencing 1988. In 1994 I acted as production manager of the make-up dept. before being appointed Department Head in 1999.
I held this position for three years before moving to Berlin, where in Sept. 2003 I was able found my company, “Barney’s FX Make-up Berlin.” I take great pleasure in passing on my knowledge and acquired skills to eager make-up students and fellow colleagues and feel I have been very successful in doing so!
During my career at the State Theatre, Hanover I was responsible for the make-up artistry tuition within the department. Since 1994 I have lectured regularly at the international make-up seminars held in Cologne, Germany and am a senior member of the adjoining board of examiners; the exams themselves and consequent qualification being recognized by the German Stage Association.
From Jan.-Oct.2001 I was invited by the “Federal Institute for Careers Structure” to assist as a senior advisor with the compilation of a national schooling curriculum for make-up artist students. Today I hold lectures on special FX make-up, including practical participation in conjunction with leading make-up manufacturers and am a regular guest tutor at the make-up artists’ school “Brushstroke” at the Shepperton Studios, London.
Examples of my credits are set out below.
